"Oh, I'm grand," Augustus said. "I'm on a roller coaster that only goes up, my friend." This is possibly my favorite line in this entire book, and this is possibly my favorite book of all time. That's hard to tell though, mostly because I can't exactly remember all the books I've ever read all at the same time. But, all the same, I loved this book. Not only does it have a sense of humor, if books can have that, it also is too good to explain.
As with any wonderful book, it does have a few things, in my opinion, that I didn't like very much. One of these things is how much Hazel tells us readers about An Imperial Affliction. It just confuses me, I guess. It's a fictional book, one that was made up in the mind of another author, and yet I can't read it. Hazel talks about it a lot, tells us lines from the book that isn't even real. As a reader, I immerse myself in the book, and that is so much easier when I know what the narrator is talking about.
Now I will say what I really liked about the book. I liked how real it seems, how if I go to Indy right now I could see Hazel and Augustus' lives played out in front of me. But I guess that is what gets me with the whole An Imperial Affiliation thing. The book, a fictional story made in John Green's head, seems too real for it not to exist. Everything else does, expect for the characters themselves, and I think that is what the author was going for, to bring something fictional into the story so that it brought his readers to the knowledge that the book isn't real.
I would give this book a 9 1/2 out of ten, mostly because there were a few things I didn't enjoy. I would give this book to any young adult, or adult, and tell them to read it right away. That's all I have to say, though, so I if you haven't read this yet, I highly recommend you read The Fault in Our Stars.
