Dumbest Things Book Characters Have Done

While reading some books, I actually feel like I could throw the book across the room because of the stupid things some characters do. Of course, I would never actually do this because my books are my pride and joy, but I do think about doing this in almost every book. Also, I feel like crying tears of frustration, but that isn't important. What is important is that I know that I am not alone in this. Here I have put together a list of the dumbest things I have read characters do. Attention! There are spoilers in this post. Proceed at your own risk!
Mare trusting Maven in the Red Queen Series by Victoria Aveyard
To be totally honest, I did trust him, too. But that does not mean that Mare should have ever trusted Maven. Really, the dude's mother can read his mind. It is impossible that she is not going to find out from one of them that they are in the Scarlet Guard, so even if Maven was being sincere at first, it never would have lasted. Seriously, Mare was just setting the entire Guard up for blackmail. So did Farley. I mean, who would trust this kid? He was literally trained to do this kind of thing and they just let him in on all the little stuff about the Guard? Granted, they didn't tell Maven everything, but they hardly told anyone everything. Still, it was undeniably stupid.
Dumbledore trusting Harry to get rid of the Horcuxes in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
To his credit, Harry did eventually destroy all the Horcruxes. But trusting three sixteen-seventeen year old kids with something that important is dumb. I love the books and all, but why would anyone do this? Not only is Dumbledore trusting them with basically all of Europe, but he is also putting the poor kids in serious danger. I wouldn't want to do that to any group of kids, no matter how old I am or how powerful they are. I just think that authors make characters way to trusting. An easy way to blow a bomb in a face. But I really do love the Harry Potter books, so don't think any different just because I am ranting about something that only appeared in the last two books.
America's affair with Aspen during the Selection in The Selection Series
Can I just start off by saying that this girl cannot make a choice? Maxon or Aspen? Please just pick one! She eventually did, but her affair with Aspen was so dumb. Even after Marlee was punished for having an affair with a guard, she still continues seeing Aspen. I can't even say how infuriated I was at her for the longest time during this series. That is probably the longest I have ever been mad at a character. But wait, it doesn't end there. America even goes so far to say that when she thinks Maxon has died, she would marry Aspen one day. Not right away, but she would. I can see some reasoning to this, but the thought that she can even think about marrying anyone after she thinks she lost the love of her life makes me wonder. The only thing that I think actually this added to the story is the extra flair when things were dull.
Okay, that's my rant session. Thanks for listening. I am cutting this post kind of short because I should probably be in bed, so I will talk to you bookworms on Monday. Thanks for reading and be sure to read all these books if you have not already!
