I'm back! Sorry I haven't posted in a very long time. I got pretty busy with school. But fear not, I've still been reading! : ) I finished - at the prompting of my friends - The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. At first, I will be honest, I hated this series. If not for my fellow bookworms, I probably never would have finished the first book. But, as was inevitable, I fell in love with it. Alas, I have only read The Mortal Instruments, The Bane Chronicles, and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy. I have yet to pick up Lady Midnight or The Infernal Devices. I will get around to it eventually. I hope. Anyway, without further ado, here is my book review. (I was not trying to rhyme that)
Spoilers imminent! Proceed at your own risk!
Let me just begin by saying that I absolutely love this series! It is up there with Twilight and The Hunger Games. I like to think of it as the new Twilight, because it is amazing and wildly popular. It's that good.
I really love the Fantasy world that Cassandra Clare created. It's a bit classical, but mostly unique to the series. I really love the introduction of Shadowhunters as a whole new element thrown in. It just makes it so much better than the usual vampires and werewolves.
I also just really love the characters. If I had to choose, I would say that Magnus Bane is my favorite. He's just so unique. I really love all the characters, though. They have very defined personalities and beliefs, and they have real world problems mixed in with all the Fantasy. What's also great is the romances. I especially love Magnus and Alec (Malec). They are just so amazing together.
The one thing I didn't like about this series is that it is in third person point of view. Now I realize that this may seem a bit (or a lot) frivolous and nitpicky. Well, it is. I am a picky reader. Most usually, I do not like books in third person. I like my one sided first person point of view, thank you very much. I don't know why, but I just like first person better.
So, in conclusion, I just want to say if you have never read this series, you totally should read it, because it is amazing. I will try to post more often, but no promises! Read on, bookworms! I hope you enjoyed, and thanks for reading!
